The
journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Okay maybe not a step, but a
young tweet inspiring yourself. It could also mean reading inspiring books which offer insights into how moguls
like Richard and Donald made it. Look, I didn't even have to say their surnames
but you already had an idea of whom I was referring to. They have obviously
come a long way to be who they are today, but have you ever thought of how when
these entrepreneurs were starting up, their hustle was just different?
Different in the sense that, when they recall their come-up they
would be forgiven if they started the sentence off by saying something like, “Back
in my day…” So naturally, we must also acknowledge that during their “days”
certain things did not exist. What I’m getting at here is that, as an
entrepreneur right now, we are fortunate to have access to certain perks.
Some human truths will remain the same but somehow being
of a digital age means that we have quite a head-start in our hustle. Gone are
the days when business cards made you somebody. We have LinkedIn for that now.
Feel like having a conversation with Oprah? You can knock yourself out and
proceed to do so. You would just have to be comfortable with having a one-way
conversation, while you spammed her daily on Twitter, Facebook and email, until
she replies.
So yes, "You're getting a headstart!",
And "You're getting a headstart!"
"Everybody is getting a headstaaaaart!"
*said in Oprah voice*
Not only have the interwebs given us a head start but as
naïve as this sounds, In my opinion the playing field has been tipped in our
favor. The challenge facing us right now is to do one thing. Start.
So maybe we should stop looking to the Donald Trumps of the
world and connect with up and coming entrepreneurs around us. Surely there's a lot more we could learn about the things that are real to us at this present moment. I suspect that we if did
this, even just for a day, then we would find some of the answers we are too busy looking
for in autobiographies that are certainly not preaching the Gospel of right now.
